Licano’s Mexican Food & Steakhouse Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

When I go up to Show Low I like to come here. I order the cheese Enchiladas. The first time I came here the food wasn't that good and surprisingly the waitress was "lazy". When we were talking a waitress noticed we were all out of chips and salsa so she got another basket of chips and salsa and just stacked it on top of the other one and left. Then she refilled the salsa and just threw it on the table, like ok. The last time I was here was just a month ago I ordered the same thing and the cheese wasn't melted at all, the sauce was gross too rich and the rice and lettuce was soggy and bland. Their service is very slow and poorly managed which equals a big disappointment.

Licano's is fairly well reviewed by the locals, but it doesn't hold up to Fiesta Mexicana (recently closed) or El Rancho's in terms of flavor. It does bring a nice family dining atmosphere and even a designated lounge area with live music on the weekends. I started out with a Glass of Sangria that they advertised on the menu. It was basically bottled, with no fruit or additional liquor. Not bad, but not what I'm used to, but then again, I'm in Show Low and don't exactly expect fine dining. The chips and salsa served were tasty, but not special. We ordered some jalapeño poppers for the table that were served with a blueberry "sauce", it looked like a canned blueberry pie filling and tasted as such. In fact it had to be spread on with a knife it was so thick. As a vegetarian I was pretty much limited to cheese enchiladas or a cheese crisp. Their beans have bacon and rice have chicken stock. Given my options I went with enchiladas, I was not impressed, they sauce had no flavor and they hardly put any cheese in it. The rest of the table seemed to enjoy their meals much more, so I think it was just what I ordered. Overall, it was solid meal with a great atmosphere, but needs some fine tuning to hit the unique flavor of some of the other Mexican restaurants on the mountain.

Outstanding service. Always get you in and out quick during lunch. Chilli Relleno's can't be beat. Best Mexican food in white mountains!

After a long day and drive up from Phoenix we grabbed a bite to eat before going to our hotel. It was a very laid back and comfortable eating establishment. It was clean, all the staff were friendly and took care of business. We got refills on our drinks and our food came out in a timely manner. The ribeye steak was extremely good however the prime rib was a bit tough. Overall it was a very pleasant dining experience and we would go back again.

4 stars because it's the standard Mexican restaurant. Can't go too wrong with anything you order. Service is hit or miss. To be expected when it's super crowded though.

Lucky for us, we were there to experience the live music which gave this place great atmosphere. The food and drinks were fine. It was a great place to relax after shredding powder all day

Basic Mexican food. Not impressed with any of our four meals. I've had similar tasting food from opening a can of beans or plastic bag of chips (.99cent chips), or even the frozen food aisle from the grocery store.

Been traveling for business and had the opportunity to go here twice on this trip. First let me say that the chips and salsa are fantastic. I like very hot salsa and when I asked if they could get me something hotter, the waitress was very accomodating. She said her cook would spice it up for me, and that he did! And it was delish. I ordered a combo plate with taco, enchilada, and green tamale. The taco and enchilada were very good, tamale was not so good. The shredded beef in the taco was very flavorful and the shells were just made. Excellent! I went back tonight and ordered the ribeye with baked potato and salad. The steak was cooked PERFECT and was great. The potato was nothing to write home about and the salad was just a normal salad, again nothing to write home about. I would give this place 4 stars if only for the chips and salsa. The service was good, but again not great. This is not a place I'd rush too if it was out of the way, but I obviously thought it was good enough to go a second night on this 4 night trip. The other cool thing tonight was the one man band. He was really good and made the meal a bit more enjoyable.

I'm giving this place an extra star just because it appears to have a bad rap that's way out of date. Licano's was recommended by a local who has similar standards, so I know he's had good experiences here. In short, the food was excellent and service spot-on. I'll definitely come back. My wife and I are both Arizona natives and we love fry bread, and with this place being right near the reservation, I thought we'd give it a try. Perhaps a silly thought in retrospect, but I saw that some of the staff were native-americans, so my thinking was that they certainly must know how to make it...amiright? The somewhat un-PC named 'Indian Taco' was tasty and exactly what I was hoping for. I had the green chili shredded beef on mine and it was tender and seasoned just right. What tasted like homemade beans and fresh lettuce and tomato finished it off. The chips and salsa provided while we waited for our meal was fresh and yummy, too. Our waitress was cheerful, polite and helpful and kept my glass of water full. My wife and I both had the sangria, which, while nothing to write home about. was more than acceptable. I couldn't really ask much more of a family-run Mexican food restaurant. Good food, nice, clean atmosphere and great service. I hope this is the end of Licano's bad rap.

Went there on a Sunday night, everything was great Everything from the margaritas to the wine to the service Sunday special was a ribeye steak prepared perfectly. I had Carne Asada the cheese and chili sauce on the New York State were great.

Good food, Good service even when very busy, Fair prices. The Navajo taco is local fare and very good. Margaritas were great and you knew they put real tequila in because you could feel it after two! This place has become much better over the 10 years we have lived here.

Went to Licano's for dinner while in town for a training session. I was impressed by the size of the seating area...it's much bigger than it looks like from the outside. They also have a nice display of alcohol gift boxes (mainly tequila) for sale by the register. The good: I had the green chile burger, which was quite tasty and pretty good sized; it's big enough for two folks to share. I also had a glass of riesling, which was a long pour...it was almost a glass and a half. The bad: Our server (Jonny...not sure how to spell her name) was slow at first then non-existent after we got our food. Towards the end of the meal, I found a glass chip in the bottom of my wine, but couldn't point it out to anyone since our server never returned (though we did see her waiting on other tables). Finally a different server came over and gave us our checks; when I showed her the glass chip, her response was "ok, I'll let the manager know" but no one ever came to follow up. Granted, when you're dealing with fragile bottles and glasses, then chips happen--still, I expected to get at least a 'so sorry, come back tomorrow for a free drink with your meal' or something. Eventually, we just paid and left. So, good food, poor service, and glass chips = meh.

Ate here on the recommendation that the fried ice cream was good. Never made it to dessert. Home made salsa and bean dip with the chips was very tasty. I had the carnitas burrito, my bride had the combo platter. Very ample portions. We left stuffed. Lots of locals in attendance.

Used to love this restaurant years ago but things have definitely changed. Upon entering the restaurant, the smell of Pine Sol or some other disinfectant about knocks you over. We went for cocktails and dinner and looked forward to being there early enough for happy hour. We were shocked when were told that we had to pay full as happy hour prices are only good in the bar. HUH? Service has been spotty the last three times we were there. Sometimes you get a great server and other times not so much. The last server we had was just plain rude and acted like she wanted to be anywhere but there. I ordered a cadilIac margarita and it was one of the worst I've ever had. Even the Grand Marnier couldn't smooth out the flavor of what tasted like cheap bottled mixer. I asked for a separate little bowl to mix my beans and salsa and you would have thought I asked the server to co-sign a home loan. She acted like I was putting her out and I had to hear all about the shortage of these little dishes and if I wanted a separate dish, it would be different than the ones on the table. Excuse me? Just bring me a freaking dish! Then when I ordered my entree, I ordered butter and chives on my baked potato. I was stunned when the server told me that the baked potatoes come standard with butter and sour cream and there would be an extra charge for the chives. What the hell? Do they have a shortage of green onions in Show Low? Shame on you Licano's!

All I can say is wow. If this restaurant were anywhere near the valley it wouldn't survive. Food was sub-par, service the same, and I couldn't get a steak till 4PM! Since this is a steakhouse, but I couldn't order a steak, I decided on a cheeseburger with fries. Now, normally fries from a Mexican restaurant are full of win, not here. Soggy steak fries are what I received. And the burger wasn't much better. The patty looked like a Costco patty with no flavor at all besides the cheese, ketchup, mustard and onion i put on there. Even the bun was stale. Absolutely disappointing. The waitress was trying her butt off, but it looked like they were understaffed. Drinks were unfilled for awhile, but I didn't blame it on her as she was running around as fast as she could. I won't be back ever, but I wish this place good luck.

Get the green chili prime rib. Or the shredded beef tacos.

Stopped here on advice of a local, hesitant to order based on other (mostly older) reviews. Had the special carnitas burrito smothered in green chili. Had a great flavor and just the right amount of heat. Nice atmosphere and friendly employees was a nice addition. Chips & Salsa & Beans & Pico was a tasty free treat to start. My friend had the fried bean burrito smothered in the red sauce and was happy with that too. Keep up the good work and ignore the posts from several years back!

The food here is definitely gringo and bad. In fact it's so bad that I probably wouldn't eat the food if someone gave it to me. I can't think of one good dish at Licano's, though the recipes supposedly come from the owner's (wife's) father, a Latino. The family owns another "Mexican" restaurant nearby, which is equally dismal. As an Arizonan, though, I do take umbrage at the previous reviewer's uncalled-for remarks about the ethnic and religious beliefs of Arizonan's in general. I believe he's painting with the same stereotypical brush, he accuses the staff at Licano's of using.

Let's begin with the obvious here. We are in Show Low; a small mountain town that doesn't try to be or claim to be a culinary destination. The fact that Show Low has a restaurant like Licano's is a plus in my book to begin with and the fact that Licano's actually serves relatively decent run-of-the-mill food makes it even better. To top it all off, Licano's also has a little bit of a personality and character with a live musician (he wasn't playing the night I went but apparently he's a one man band and the hit of the place), mountain town decorating and a whole bunch of locals who love it there. After the drive from Phoenix to Show Low, our group was starving and after visiting Licano's in the past, decided to try it out again. The menu at Licano's is a jack of all trades style menu. You can find anything from a burro for $6 to a steak for $20. They offer a wide variety of drinks and they bring out chips and multiple salsas the minute you sit down. As we ate our weight in chips and salsa, I decided to go with the chicken burro enchilada style and to wash it down with a house margarita. The margaritas came out and were just what the doctor ordered after a work day and three hour drive! When we ordered a second one (yes, it was a two margarita kind of night), we noticed that this time they brought out larger glasses to half of the group. The alchy eyes in all of us lit up thinking we were getting more margarita this time but alas, the waitress informed us that the bigger the glass, the more margarita mix not tequila. So if you visit, be sure to ask for the smaller margarita glass. The food came out and everyone's plate looks good. Is it the best Mexican food I've ever had? No. Is it about the same as 60% of the Mexican food I get in Arizona? Yes. Mexican food is Mexican food and in my book, the way it normally goes is that all of it tastes the same until you find the restaurants who kicks it up into high gear. So the food was fine. It was filling, had a bit of flavor and there was a lot of it. I left full and satisfied. Again, don't expect fine dining that's equivalent to NYC. This is Show Low. So, if you're visiting and you want some decent food in a restaurant with a little character, Licano's is your spot.

My husband and my two boys ages 5 and 7 ate here on a recent Saturday night after a full day of snow skiing. We had great service and great food! My kids and I love Mexican food but my husband is not a big fan so this was the perfect place for us. My kids got tostadas and I got cheese enchiladas. My husband got a grilled pork chop. We all thought our food was great. My kids really like the bean dip they serve with the chips and salsa. Most importantly, the service was excellent! We were never wondering where our food was or where our waitress was. She was very attentive and the restaurant was full. We find that in the White Mountains, good service is hard to come by, but not here. If you want good, standard Mexican food or a quality steak (not Ruth's Chris or Mortons) and good, quick service, this is the place for you! Also, the margaritas are good!

The ribeye was great, chili rellanos were delicious, and the seating was comfortable. Thank you for playing soft jazz. My husband and I were able to enjoy conversation with dinner due to the ambience and cool seating. Service was great.

Again my family has given this place a chance to redeem it's self and it's fallen flat. The service while friendly, is SLOW and some times nonexistent. It took 10 minutes for our part of 5 to be seated when the place was less than half full on a weeknight. The young lady who was attempting to seat us seemed put out by our request to be seated in a booth in the "middle" dining area and then asked us to take a seat back in the lobby as she "had just set a large" party in that area and the server needed to get their beverage order out. After finally being seated, it took more time for the server to come and take our drink order. Then the wait was on for the chips and salsa. Once those came out it was another wait for the server to take our order. Again the server was friendly, but when a restaurant is less than half full you expect more efficient service. We completed our first basket of chips and set the basket in an obvious area to request more chips. Our server did not come back to our table until it was time for our meal to be served. The food was OK, not great not bad, just OK. Standard "Mexican" fare you will find all over the Southwest. Save yourself the time, money and trouble and go to one of the many other Mexican restaurants in Show Low, Pinetop, Lakeside. Sal and Teresa's is a much better choice for good service and great food.

Doing a circle tour of the natural wonders of Arizona with some Italian friends, we stopped in Show Low for the night and stayed at the Paint Pony Lodge (qv). Licano's is right next to the Paint Pony, but separately owned and operated. It having been a long day, and feeling a bit homesick for LA's Mexican food, we looked at Licano's and gave it a try. We had forgotten that Arizona is a segregated state that apparently does not permit gringos and latinos to eat in the same establishment. Licano's is a strictly gringo Mexican restaurant, full of stereotypes and food that would make anyone who had the slightest clue about how Mexican food tastes run for the nearest burger joint. And of the entire staff, only one had any ethnic heritage, and she was mopping the floors. Talk about "English only" as a economic philosophy, and here it was right before your eyes. Not much to recommend it. In as much as our Italian fiends do not speak any English, we naturally spoke in Italian with each other during the meal, which seemed a little off-putting to the blond-haired staff. At the end of the meal, mostly memorable for being so bad, we were making a quick exit back to our rooms for a bottle of good wine as a digestif when the char lady came up to us and said, in Spanish, how nice it was to hear a Latin language spoken in the restaurant. We immediately switched to Spanish, and as the manager was running over to beat her away from the customers, we exchanged hugs and good nights, and slipped a nice tip into her pocket. It was one of the most moving human experiences we had in Arizona, a state where humanity does not seem much valued. Would I eat here again -- not on a bet.

Green chili burro, Friday lunch special, is incredibly flavorful. Brittany is an upbeat and wonderfully sweet waitress, excellent service.

My girlfriend and I each ordered the ribeye, both medium rare. Mine came out almost well done, hers was a little closer to medium well. I ordered rice with it, and wasn't aware that the rice was spanish rice, so I asked to replace it with a baked potato, she told me I would have to pay for it. Since I had to pay for the potato I told her I wasn't paying for a well done ribeye, that was ordered med rare. She got her manager, who told me that this is how "their" medium rare is cooked to which my girlfriend stated that hers was closer to med well so how can that be? I asked how long they have been in business and the manager told me a long time, so I asked how that could be when there was no pink in my alleged med rare ribeye. She said there was pink in there, basically the customer is not right in this restaurant, she said she would get me another steak closer to rare, I said I just want a medium rare steak, simple. She brought me back a rare, almost cool to the touch in the center. Plain rude and in your face attitude, so we ended up paying almost $60 for poorly cooked steaks, and of course the baked potato. My girlfriend ended up having to go up to the hostess stand to get our check, and then back up again to pay for it, because the waitress never came back. The management feels they are right and the customer is not, reminded me of one of those failing restaurants in Kitchen nightmares, where it's never their fault. Needless to say, I would never step foot back in this place, on a positive note my two dogs were extremely happy with the food I brought home to them.

I loved the green chili burro and shredded beef tacos. The service was pretty good . It was a busy late Sunday lunch. We have been here several times and have never had a bad experience. Their salsa and bean dip are Just ok. They used to be better. We will be back when we are in town again.

Not worth it!!!! This is not Mexican food!!! It's completely Americanized and actually has more American food on their menu than Mexican...if can even call it that. Don't waste your time if you're looking for great Mexican food cuz you won't find it here! :(

    (1)
  • Lou M.

This would be a solid 3 if it wasn't for the Pico de Gallo. Good mexican food and a decent burger, but the service can be slow and inconsistent. Worth the stop, yes...worth going back maybe...make it a regular stop, probably not. Service - average Food - average plus Atmosphere - eh Price - a bit high for what it is

So I would normally give this place three stars but last night was the third time they have gotten my order wrong. Now that wouldn't be so bad except instead of the waitress apologizing she gets a witchy attitude, that was a real turn off, wrong order with an attitude. The offer was made to put a new order into the kitchen but by time I got it everyone else at the table would be finished with their meal and I would be left to eat alone. NO FUN!!!! I'm sure I will be back sometime to check them out for any improvements in their game, but until then their food is just standard fare nothing special and the staff is pretty clueless and a bit rude. Go down the street to the new Los Corralos where they are polite and can get your order right without an attitude and the food is tastier.

I highly recommend the prime rib sandwich. It was extremely tender and delicious. Another option is the Navajo taco. It was mediocre. The chicken sandwich was good. The wait is insane. So if you go here make sure you have a lot of time to spare. We opted for the bar area so we did not have to wait to be seated. However it took us an hour before we received our food. Again good place if you have a lot of time to spare.

I was pleasantly surprised. After reading a lot of negative reviews we actually had a good experience. Only one bad thing. We had a reservation for a party of 15 for 7 PM on Labor Day weekend. It was crazy busy. We didn't get seated until 7:30 PM. Once we were seated our waitress made me forget how long we waited. Our drinks were kept full, the food arrived quickly and everyone in our party enjoyed what they ordered. We will be back on our next visit to Show Low. I would have given it five stars except for the wait after we had made a reservation.

  • Laurie M.

We used to be loyal customers of Licano's but no more. Went with friends today & waited TOO long for our food. Asked the waitress what was taking so long and she said it was my hamburger that took so long. Now that I've read other reviews I know that the slow service is common. Waitress acted like she could care less if we ever came back. As we left, the hostess & waitress were in the lobby & never said good-bye, thanks for coming, come back etc. Los Corrales just down the road is now our favorite Mexican restaurant in Show Low..

The service was pretty bad. She barely checked on us. She wasn't that nice, and in front us the whole kitchen staff was sitting down, which to me is completely inappropriate. Additionally she did not tell me that things like sour cream would charge more. Just saying sour cream should not cost 2$ for a small bowl of it. That is 1/4 of the price of a burrito there. She also did nothing when I mentioned that she did not tell me the prices of the extras when some things like salsa, and chips are free. Completely unacceptable. They get three stars because the food was good, but the service made me so mad that I could not enjoy my time there.

Not going into detail but pretty disappointed by the service here. Dinner service was unfriendly, food was ok but then I still decided to come back for a nightcap and was pretty much made to feel like I was not wanted at all. POOR POOR POOR SERVICE ALL AROUND......

  • Matthew B.

Decided to give them another chance, will NEVER go back. I assure you, this is not an out dated perspective on the horrible service at this establishment. I apologize to the couple of nice staff members I've dealt with here, but the majority of the bartenders and servers are terrible.

  • Larry S.

I went some trepedation to this restaurant because the reviews about the service were pretty negative. I had been driving from New Mexico and hadn't eaten since breakfast so I was very hungry and I left for dinner at 5:00 pm. The service was excellent tonight (Saturday). This may be due to the hour I arrived; however, the restaurant was pretty busy and still the service was good. The food was good. The beef taco was stuffed completely with shredded beef. The beef was seasoned and tasted great. I also had a chili relleno and it was also very good. The Spanish rice was really good...I think it was the best I've had. I had sopapillas (sorry about the spelling) and coffee for dessert. The sopapillas were really good also. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

BEST. SHRIMP. TACOS. I'VE. EVER. HAD. Seriously, the best. Grilled shrimp in amazing homemade tortillas fried to perfection! Mmmmm!!! They also serve this amazing bean dip with the chips and salsa before your meal...SOOOOO GOOOOD! Kinda like refried beans with some sort of cheese mixed in? I still can't tell what makes it so good! And the cheese crisp is the BEST I've ever eaten! Flaky, crispy, and cheesy, not greasy at all! Only reason they get 4 stars versus 5 is the service. A little on the slow side but still very friendly.

I was craving steak and my husband wanted Mexican and we found this little gem. We split a chimichunga and prime rib with the baby red potatoes. Everything was DELICIOUS and totally within our budget. Our server was friendly, helpful and quick with our refills and to check our needs. We will definitely be back next time we're driving through. Can't wait to have their chips and salsa with creamy bean dip again!!

  • Ashleigh S.

Food was ok. Not great. Waitress/service sucked. Took her a half hour to bring drinks. Didnt even know they served bean dip until another waitress brought it out. Waited 40minutes for food. Then she didnt even come back out to see if we needed anything else. I had to get up myself to go and get a to go container for my daughter's food. Tried to pay at the front because I got tired of waiting for her to bring the check then was told I couldn't pay because the waitress hadn't closed it out yet so I had to go back to my table (I should have just walked out at that point) to wait for her to bring me the bill. Then when I walked back up front to pay and the lady standing at the register rolling silverware wouldnt let me pay til the cashier got there because it wasn't her "job"!! First and last time I will ever go there!!! My sister in law went a couple weeks prior and she had a similar experience so its not just me that has has horrible service!

My grandma recommended this Mexican place over the other Mexican establishment in town. Why? I don't know? I'm sure they were probably the same. Three out of the four of us ordered Margaritas. They were terrible and tasted like chemicals. I only had one and could barely get through it. They have a custom cocktail menu and when I wanted to know details the waitress wasn't familiar with the make up of the drinks. It was mostly a mix of Vodka and Rum drinks. I had my one Margarita and didn't attempt another. I went with the #48 Crunchy Chicken Taco with a Chile Relleno. The taco was the worst taco I've ever had in my entire life. My Relleno more than made up for it because it was delicious. The food was uninspired and blah. Its poor white people interpretation of what Mexican food should be. I guess finding the best Mexican place in this town is like finding the funniest Mormon. Its never going to happen.

Pretty good experience was up in Show Low for the 4th of July weekend. Ate there 2x on Saturday. Lunch was great had the Licano Burger, burger was hot, fresh and juicy had taken 2 bites without even any red or yellow sauce. Dinner, had one of the combo plates (Taco and Green Burro enchilada style) also fresh and tasty, Both meals had substantial portions. Service was ok, for dinner it was packed and seemed a little under staffed as I think my ice tea could have been topped off a little more often. Still it beats the fast food and the other place (see review for On the Rim).

On our way back from vacation, we stopped in town to spend the night and was given this restaurant as a recommendation. I would have to say that this is a very underrated place. The service was quick and friendly, and on point for what we needed. We ordered the combo plate 40. My wife had the enchilada with shrimp and a ground beef taco. She said the shrimp was seasoned very well and the tortillas (homemade by our guess) were perfect thickness and crispness. I had the enchilada with shredded beef and the chicken taco. The beef was seasoned well but the green chile sauce is what made that dish. The chicken on the taco was all white meat (a plus) and not dry. It too was well seasoned and flavorful. We also recommend ordering a side of guacamole because it was freshly made and delicious. It was a little expensive for a Mexican restaurant, but well worth the cost for the quality of food you get. Highly recommended this place for anyone passing through.

Actually 3.5 would be a little more appropriate. While the food continues to be consistently quite good, as is the facility, excellent service is not the norm. Tonight the server took quire a while to take our order. The time to get the food was all right (or alright to illiterates who don't know better! ), it was brought by another person. It has taken a long time to train my wife not to eat with her hands, but it almost was necessary because neither of us had setups, and our server was MIA. We hailed down another server and got our utensils. About the time we finished our meal, our server surfaced and asked how our food was. Probably a little too late! Finally got our check after 2 long wait. She processed it promptly. I normally pay a 20% tip as being an excellent server takes both experience and interest in the job. My sense is that she had the skills but lacked interest. I wanted to give her no more than a 10 tip, but because my wife was paying for the meal; she gave a 15% tip. Will we come back? Sure. We are regulars here, and this still is one of the better options on the mountain.

This is one of my 2 favorite restaurants in Show Low. I get either the Navajo Taco (no meat) or cheese enchiladas depending on my mood. My husband usually gets the Chimis or fish tacos all of which are amazing every time. My husband will order ala cart and eats the remainder of my rice and beans from my meals and we are more than satisfied. Prices are more than reasonable and it has a romantic atmosphere with plenty of seating. We especially like the bean dip for the chips. Unfortunately the one are where I am not impressed with is thier margaritas. Otherwise, I love Licanos!

Food is about 3 stars but the service is a big fat 0! Server was angry about something the entire night. Leave whatever is happening in your real life at home. We were a group of 4 they brought out food for 3 of us and the 4th about 15 mins later. Wtf? Rather go to Albiertos down the street.

Never to return. Even if the food was good, the customer service left a sour taste in our mouths. The waitress at one point, stated she could wait for us to make a decision because the had food at the window. All of the staff when asked to go out of their way, rolled their eyes, if you don't like your job, find a new one!

I'm in Show Low every month, but this place is just far enough on the edge of town that I hadn't bothered trying it yet. I came in last Saturday night wanting to stay a while, get some work done on my computer, drink beers, eat some food, and watch TV. The bar area is pretty nice, and had enough (not a lot, but enough) TV's. Jennifer was my waitress and she was awesome. she didn't mind me setting up camp there, and was just attentive enough to know that she cared about me, but didn't want to scare me off. the chips and salsa were pretty good. the guacamole was really good. rice and beans were normal, and that is all I had (just looking to graze on food that night). The prices were right, the service was great. the only ding I give this place is two fold: 1) the house margarita was almost undrinkable 2) The bar was 70% full at "last call "(10:00pm). I know that Show Low is a sleepy mountain town... but why not go crazy and stay open an hour later? I will be back again.

I really wanted to like this place. I read reviews and was looking forward to eating here during our stay in the area. We showed up after the lunch rush on a Friday afternoon. I am a very patient and polite person, but this was absolutely the worst service I have ever, ever had. Anywhere. Ever! Our server was the bartender who didn't have many other customers, maybe 3 or 4 by the time our friends arrived but she seemed as though she could not have cared less if we got drinks, food, chips or salsa... in fact she pointed out that it was not her job to bring us chips or salsa. She wasn't rude, just indifferent and not available to do a good job. Maybe she's new and will learn the ropes quickly but she wasn't caring in the least. It took forever to get drinks and we were sitting AT THE BAR. We were waiting on friends to meet us so we had a drink while we waited. Once our friends showed up we sat at a table and waited for our server. And waited. And waited. The bartender finally came and took our drink orders but we had to ask 3 times to get all of our drinks. When I ran out I didn't bother to order another one because I didn't think it would make it to our table before we left. Pros: Salsas - excellent salsa & pico de gallo Food - vegetarian selections Plenty of parking Ambience Cons: Service, service, service - totally lacking in every way Food was cold from sitting so long waiting on ... THE SERVER! Couldn't get drinks... from THE SERVER! Gave up on chips from whoever was supposed to be responsible for that, apparently not THE SERVER I would NOT bring my business here again. I am a person of principle and there is no way I will go back into an establishment that hires service that does not care about me as a customer.

We visited this restaurant two times this week for dinner. This was a nice compromise for our family because I love mexican good and my husband is not a huge fan of it. I tried the enchilada and taco plate the first night it was just ok. The sauce was not very great. My husband had the southwest chicken I was lucky enough to score a bite of his chicken and it was amazing!! The 2nd time we went I ordered the green chili burro and he had the southwest chicken again. Again his was amazing. My burro had good flavor. The chips, salsa and bean dip are all great. My daughter had a cheese crisp last night and it was great also, crispy and flavorful.. The staff were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The next time we are in Show Low we will be going back!

This place is a hidden gem in Show Low. The food all by itself deserves five stars. The taco shells they use are amazing and the burros are full of taste. I totally recommend the cheese crisp because of how unique it is. It has a flaky crust with amazing cheese. The salsa is so-so but the chips are quite good. Along with the salsa they serve, they also give a pico that deserves five stars along with some beans to dip chips in as well. Cant say for drinks I never tried but the service is quite good. Cheese crisp!!! You wont be disappointed, I Promise!

I've really tried to like this place but other than the atmosphere I can't. The food is high priced and the Mexican food is just too hot for me and it all tastes the same.

We love Mexican food, and it was excellent here. It was very busy - you could tell it's a regular for many of the locals. We loved their chips/salsa - and also the bean dip that was served with the chips - fun to have something not only new and different - but good also! I don't eat corn and they did make me some flour chips, so . . that was nice! (Yep, had to pay but . . it's even rare to find a place that will do it!) So . . in this they were accommodating. They weren't as accommodating with my husband's request - that of a avocado taco, which he's not many places (he's vegetarian). The waitress didn't know if they could do it, and then after seeing that he wasn't going to give-up with her "I don't think so" she offered to check with the cook. She came back with a "no" - from the owner! He said you couldn't do that for health reasons (putting cold avocado into a hot taco shell. We still don't understand this, as shared earlier, my husband has had this many places.) Anyway, onward and forward. He did decided on something else and enjoyed it. Our server was very nice and friendly - and busy!

We have eaten at Licano's a LOT. We used to live in Show Low. But this was a very busy Saturday in the summer, June 11, 2014, and Show Low becomes inundated with weekend visitors from the Phoenix metro area, which is hotter than the hinges of Hades. Show Low has very pleasant summer weather...it's high in the mtns., that's why. Nonetheless, there are a lot of people looking for work, and Licanos needs to hire more. Our waitress was busting her tail tending to her other clients. It was 30 minutes before she could land at our table to take our order. Other couples, served by other wait staff were getting up and leaving while we were waiting for our meai which took another half hour or more. Food was good...we had gringo food this time, club sandwich. There were 3 of us. I'd rather suffer McDonalds as go there again. Horrid service, horrid. Thank you.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
